Project Editor

The Project Editor is your estimating workspace — the place you'll spend most of your time inside a project. It pulls together rooms, pricing, totals, notes, client info, and review tools for the current project version.

Add Rooms

Rooms are the core building blocks of an estimate. EstimateSync supports four room types: Interior, Exterior, Single Wall, and Deck.

Each type drives calculations differently:

  • Interior uses length, width, and height to calculate ceiling area, wall area, and perimeter.
  • Exterior uses the same dimensions for exterior wall area and perimeter.
  • Single Wall focuses on a single wall surface.
  • Deck uses length and width for floor area and perimeter.

To add a room, give it a name, pick the room type, enter your dimensions, and choose any starting painting options the setup flow presents.

Use Room Defaults

Room Defaults save you from repeating the same setup every time you create a new room. You can pre-set things like setup time, dimensions, default coats, and default item selections for the current project and version.

Some defaults save when you update them in a Properties view; others — like default item choices — save immediately. For organization-wide default policies, head to Account Settings.

Edit Room Work

Open any room to fine-tune its setup, repairs, painting, and photos. Setup time feeds into your labor totals as long as the current version has a labor rate set.

The painting and repair/prep sections contain your item rows, warnings, running totals, and controls for adding new items. Some item values stay linked to room dimensions, default coats, or current rates — so when those change, your items update automatically. For a deeper look at item types, fields, warnings, and saved templates, check the Items reference.

You can attach room photos from your camera or photo gallery. Review your photo visibility choices before counting on a photo to appear in customer-facing or crew-facing output.

Adjust Pricing and Discounts

The Pricing area is where you dial in rates and apply discounts. Your rate summary shows:

  • Time and labor
  • Materials
  • Final price, gross profit, and margin

You can adjust labor and paint material rates for the current version, and EstimateSync recalculates totals instantly.

Discounts reduce the final price and update the total discount percentage. If the project version has been sent or sold, it's locked — you'll need to create a revision before editing rates, discounts, rooms, or items.

Review Totals and Output

Project Totals give you a snapshot of labor, materials, final price, gross profit, and target time. The Estimate Breakdown goes deeper, separating out pricing, time estimates, repairs, painting, and paint requirements.

Use the Review area to preview your estimate and scope output. Keep in mind that a draft preview isn't a customer link — sharing estimates and invoices with customers is part of the project lifecycle.
